Almost Fearless: Twittering Dissent Around the World

  • Sean · 6 months ago
It is pretty amazing how something I once viewed only as a way to update people on what I was currently eating, could become THE source for news on global events. It just shows how powerful some of these online communities (such as Twitter) can really be. Thank you for one of the most interesting posts I have read in awhile!

This type of reporting will become more and more important. Old media is being consolidated into a few monolithic entities with corrupting ties to companies and governments, while governments and companies are putting massive resources behind controlling information. Orwell was just a little early.

Great post Christine. Journalism has changed, the media as a whole has changed and it's not going back.

It's amazing how useful Twitter has become, and how obsolete traditional news is becoming. Thanks for this, Christine.

It's funny how the way we receive news has evolved over the years: messengers and word of mouth, newspaper, radio, television, news websites, bloggers, and now Twittering.

Unnerving situation in Guatemala. Thank you for writing this up.

The first time I realized the impact that Twitter is having on the world and on news as we know it was during the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan. This post reinforces my views on the power of Twitter as a solid news source. Well-done.

When I joined Twitter, never did I realize it would become such a powerful tool in 'covering' global news.

Man, twitter sounds so cool (aside from the name) - Government spies, jail breaks, protests, live coverages. I haven't gotten twitter yet, I sorta feel like that kid in school who never got a Tamagotchi. Feels like I'm missing out on some good fun. And protests. For now I'm not letting twitter into my life.
