You make me want to pack up and head south! I enjoy your descriptions and can see Puerto Viejo in my mind. One of the things I love about travel is the way we can pick up lifestyle "souvenirs," in cultures or traditions or kind acts, gleaned from people we meet along the way.

great story!!! makes me want to travel right this moment!
did you cross the border by bus?
  • Christine · 9 months ago
Adriana: Yes, I took a shuttle from Bocas del Toro to Puerto Viejo for $34. They take you to the border, you get out, walk across, get your passport stamped on both sides and then get into a different shuttle on the Costa Rica side. Very smooth. I think it's a 3 hour bus ride all toll.

Each day as I read the depressing news about the economy and then watch the layoffs and unemployment numbers rise, I wonder what would I do for a couple of months? I love living abroad, currently in Hong Kong, and am not ready to return to the US. Well…after this post I have new plans. My day just got brighter and I happily shared this with my collegues.

I was just there last week. It was amazing--especially when the rain finally stopped on saturday...it was absolutely beautiful.

    Great post!

“In Costa Rica we help each other. Whatever I have is yours.”

The same attitude prevails in China.

Sounds like you captured a slice of paradise. Costa Rica is a fascinating place, it really depends where you are in the country, though. I found small villages and the coast to be very friendly but not so much in San Jose.

Sounds wonderful; I might be heading that way when I travel and I can't wait to experience hostels like that. Seeing the ocean first thing in the morning would definitely get me up and out of bed!
