Almost Fearless: A Day in Antigua

  • Gennaro @ Enduring Wanderlust · 11 months ago
Antigua is one of my favorite cities in Latin America. Beautiful architecture fills the city though much is in poor condition. Lots of Mayans with their colorful clothing and plentiful handicrafts. Quite a few tasty restaurants too. I recommend taking a trip to the near-by volcanos too, but it's better to bring a guide for security.

I loved that fountain, too! Great pics; when I was there it was the rainy season, which was nice for atmospheric shots of the ruins but didn't afford many splendid views of the volcano.

I tried walking around in Antigua a few days back and I got annoyed with all the tourists and instead just sat in the park eating ice cream. HA! But it was nice people watching!

If it was filmed in Mexico, I'm wondering if it was San Cristobal in Chiapas - I've been there and it looks very much like your first picture (and the third as well, actually), which is no surprise I suppose as they were both founded 15 years apart by the Spanish, and are both in highlands and largely populated by Maya (and San Cristobal was part of Guatemala right up til the 19th century).

    It looks beautiful

Great stuff, Christine. You should really get a polarizing filter for your camera. In these shots the sky would really pop!

Loved the volcano and arch! Looks beautiful! BTW, I really loved your close up on food the other day too.

We love beans, so will have a hey day when we get to that part of the world. ;) Luckily, there are enough immigrants here in Spain from Ecuador, that we can find all the fixings and make our own south of the border food. ( Something Californians have a hard time living without). ;)

I'll be adding this to my places to visit for a yet-unplanned-but-in-my-mind road trip across Central America one of these days.

    Great post and great pictures!

Are the volcanoes extinct, dormant or active? Either way, I'd have been right up there, as I've been fascinated by them ever since I was a kid.

It is so true about that volcano - it's almost impossible to get a shot without it!

Lonely Planet Plaza! I love it!

Here's a photo that was taken in Antigua and it has your name all over it (literally). Someone took the time to post these sticky notes all over this wall of a building in Antiqua. Every note is inscribed with the message "Te amo, Cristina." http://blogs.nationalgeographic.com/blogs/intel...
